Concord Battle Monument
Central Square
(Go to the triangle of land in the middle of the street, across from the Fiske House)
On April 19th, 1775 a messenger from Billerica told everybody that the British soldiers were coming. Chelmsford’s Minutemen met by this rock monument, and the militia then went to Concord to fight the British.
In the Revolutionary War, Chelmsford men played an important role. Capt. John Ford, Capt. Benjamin Walker, Capt. Oliver Barron and Lt. Col. Moses Parker were leaders in the Battle of Concord. Benjamin Pierce (father of president Franklin Pierce), John Ford, Simeon Spaulding and many others took part. At the
Battle of Bunker Hill, Captain Ford had his company in the forefront and here Joseph Spaulding is believed to have fired the first shot. For more information on the Concord Battle Monument, click the link down below!
