Chelmsford Ginger Ale Company
14 Littleton Road
In 1901, the Chelmsford Spring Company was founded by C. George Armstrong. Its ginger beer was popular, and when the company switched from stone to glass bottles, the recipe was changed, and ginger ale was born. The company became the Chelmsford Ginger Ale Company. Canada Dry bought the company in 1931, and continued making Chelmsford Golden Ginger Ale until 2003.
The original Chelmsford Ginger Ale plant was closed in 1959 and torn down in 1992. Now, Ginger Ale Plaza is on the site of the building, and the factory’s old sign is still there.
Currently, Ginger Ale Plaza is on the site of the Chelmsford Ginger Ale Company, and it consists of businesses such as the Java Room, Northern Bank and Trust, EmbroidMe, and Bertucci’s. If you would like to try some Chelmsford Ginger Ale, it is available for purchase at Market Basket!
