Chelmsford School for the Deaf

Town Common

When the School for the Deaf was first founded, Miss Harriet B. Rogers was the principal. The school had 8 students, even though it was only made for 7, and only 2 of the students were paying. Green Hubbard donated $1000 to the school, and after this, John Clarke donated $50,000 to open a school in Northampton.

Miss Rogers was made principal  and Chelmsford’s students were invited to move to this new school. One of the students was Mabel, who went on to marry Alexander Graham Bell! For more information about the Chelmsford School for the Deaf, select the link below titled "More Information".
